Silks Solicitors Ltd and J W Hinks hosted a table at the 2016 Annual Dinner for STEP (The Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners ) Birmingham branch which took place on 9th June at Edgbaston County Cricket Club. STEP Birmingham is one of the largest and most active branches outside London and is celebrating its quarter of a century in September of advising families and business across the generations on trust and estate matters. The branch meets bimonthly to discuss topical issues of interest and relevance to practitioners and professionals in the area of tax, trusts, wills and probate and has gone from strength to strength since it was first set up in the September 1991.
The evening was a time to catch up with friends, old and new, from the legal, accounting and business world and enjoy an excellent meal at a superb venue, all washed down with plenty of liquid refreshment.
There was a buzz from the outset as we mingled at the drinks reception and welcomed guests and colleagues. Later in the evening we heard from Keith Dudley a former STEP chair, both of Birmingham and England and Wales, as well as Peter Gosling the current chair. Gratitude was expressed to former chair and current vice-chair, Laura Banks in the form of a large bouquet and great applause, as well as to Keith himself for his tireless commitment over the years in the form of a liquid gift and similar applause! He had after all been responsible for organising and coordinating this marvellous event – even if the committee had overruled him on some of his menu choices!
Speeches however were kept to a minimum leaving ample time to enjoy relaxing and chatting to our quests and co-hosts. Neal Aston, newly appointed managing partner at JW Hinks brought along fellow partners: Dan Morgan and Marcus Rose, Silks Directors Kevin Jones and Martin Thomas, along with senior associate and STEP Birmingham Committee member and STEP Birmingham Technical Committee secretary, Lis Whybrow, hosted the table. We were pleased to welcome Stuart Pryor chartered financial planner with Redbourne Wealth, James McLaughlin CEO of Cure Leukaemia, a client of Silks, and Cecelia Russell client adviser at UBS.
All in all an excellent fun evening was had by all!
